I have a 57 Plymouth savoy I have owned for over ten years, I restored the car about eight years ago. the steering started to really wander around after I got it out this spring. I opened up the gear box and the worm gear is totally destroyed.... I have since then been searching for a new gear. I had yards out west send me some. and they were junk with the same shot worm. I have called lares corporation they quoted me $575 rebuild and worm gear replacement.....and I assume that's with them turning a new gear? Im wondering if any of you guys out there have a good box or even just the gear I could slip into mine?

Well for what its worth I had to rebuild a steering box for a 55 St Regis. I used Lares and was very pleased It did cost with shipping around 700

You would be better off having it rebuilt.

joshr, why don't you give us an idea where you live? I have several 57-58 manual gear boxes, still in the cars mot sure of the condition but shipping will not be cheap.

Josh,
I have a manual steering box out of a 58 Savoy that I do not need. Not sure of the condition but it did come out of a driving car when pulled. I got it from a friend of mine who changed his car over to power steering when he restored it. If interested let me know. As 58coupe said above it would be helpful to know your location due to shipping could get expensive depending on where you live.
