OK Folk's, the 300L has sold to Mike McCandless and 2 more Car's to go!!! I have way to much garage funiture and I want to restore my 68 Charger for my "Christine" movie clone of Dennis Guilder's Charger!!!!!!

1957 Plymouth Belvedere Convertible!!

Ebay Item number: 200925636420

Hello and Good Evening to Everyone,

I have decided to sell a couple of Classic Car's I have as they are garage furniture and someone who decide's to purchase this one will have a nice diving rare Mopar Convertible.

This is a very original 57 Plymouth Belvedere from Florida with all original drivetrain(301 V8)(Push Button Trq Flight) and very low mile's. The car was restored in the early 80's and although it retain's all the orig body panels, floor's, trunk, solid undercarriage and frame, it did receive a very poor Yellow Paint Job. The car is very solid and straight and I personally ran a magnet over the entire car to ensure it was not "Bondoed Up". It is all medal however above the headlight's does have some small fill as these car's are known for in that area.

The Original Interior is in very nice condition, off White and Gold Vinyl and Cloth insert's. The Carpet is Gold as well and is very nice. The Convertible Top is White and the Car will come with a Brand New Original Top in Boxes($1,000.00) if the buyer decide's to restore her to show condition.

This Mopar is very rare and is 1 of 9,000 made in 57. Please know this car run's and drive's well and very nive above average driver needing a proper Paint Job to be Show Quality. I also will throw in a full set of original Bumper Wing's($3,500) that can be installed on this car for the perfect touch if the car is bought with the BIN only! The new Convertible Top is also included if the car reaches the reserve/BIN.

This car is privately owned and the professional picture's are courtesy of "IAG" in Florida. A special Thank You to Stu and Jason.

Any question's should be asked prior to auction's end, any inspection's are welcomed and encouraged prior to auction's end, not after you win the bid. Please do not waist my or your time. Thank You!

Joe (914)557-7575

I can attest the seller was super honest on the transaction I had with him. His car was better than described in the case of the 300L. Good luck with the sale!

Twice this Plymouth has escaped me, I was unaware of the Ebay Auction when Joe bought it in March, But the sale before that at Private Auction when it sold Real Cheap was a kick in the teeth, Had i known i would probably own it now....

Going to put a cheeky Bid in on it later tonight, But am away for 2 weeks in the morning taking the family on Vacation, So wont be around for the auction end.

If it doesnt sell and Joe feels sorry for a UK Member especially if he gets messed about with dead beats on Ebay, He may lower the price ,LOL,
The problem is also the Shipping and Import Duty Costs to the UK, Or i would bid more..

Well seems the Convert will be re-listed in a couple days as the dead beat buyer has not paid. Oh well things happen. Anyway if anyone here wants her ....25K firm w/ new convert top or $27K firm with all 4 Bumper Wings. Let me know.

Thanks,
Joe.

Here's a non-mobile link to the ad;

That's because special, sought after cars (especially when in good/rebuilt condition) usually end up in the hands of greedbag flippers instead of car enthusiasts.
With todays currency rates, €45.000 is almost $60.000,-
They make a cr@pload of money if some sucker buys it here.

I look at a car based on their looks Sought after or not, I'd prefer a '60 Desoto Coupe than a Chrysler 300-F. I don't find the large cross grill for '60 very appealing, nor the fake trunk tire. How anyone could pay through the nose for such looks is beyond me.

100% markup is pretty high, if I thought I could get away with it, I would do the same

Because the AU$ was very strong angainst the US$, US cars prices seem to have taken a hit here, I have seen a few cars go for
the same money as I have seen them on US ebay (or close to it).

To import a classic car here thats unusual would be a big gamble, not that it wouldnt sell, but it could take a while and if you aimed at the lower end (type that would be more whay I would get), as in, needing retoration, you could get stuck with it

Ah, I see the MP-ad is still at 44.950 while their website says 48.950,-
That 'little' 10% price-difference sure doesn't bring confidence.

I think I'll just buy that '80 Datsun instead for €28.950...

Just a quick note......

I see a couple of Folks had some opinion's about certain cars like this one that are being sold or should I say "Flipper's" are making all kinds of money??? Just so it's known... The car was sold for pennies at an Auction, then I paid almost 21K plus shipping costs as well as go thru the entire car replacing Brake's and a bunch more. I sold the car for NO huge profit however sold it in hopes a person who wanted to commit to restoring this car as it should be. I sold 3 of my very rare cars to fund another frame off Resto I currently am neck deep into plus I wanted to paint this car RED/WHITE and convert to 58. I did not have the heart to do that so I have all of the clubs/forums the chance to purchase the car for a fair price which covers my initial investment. The thing I noticed is Clubs/Forums are filled with dreamers and tire kickers or folks that feel the car should be sold for nothing.

This car has made NO ONE any kind of real profit however it also has not found the proper owner who will purchase it and dump another pile of money to fully restore it as it should be. This is the truth regarding this car.

Just my thoughts.

Joe.

Joe I like it as she sits - beautiful.

Ain't gonna waste your time even electronically kicking the tires - no way I could afford it.

But I wouldn't do a darn thing to it if I could - except enjoy the heck out of it. Good luck.

Hello all, here she is in Germany:

http://www.rdclassics.com/oldtimer/Plymouth_Belvedere_Convertible_E...

The seller is a very big classic car dealership from the netherlands, with their showroom in Germany just 500 meters away from the dutch border.

The asking price is approx. 60.000.- US Dollars, i think it is a bit overpriced.... a bit.

As I consider buying her, I have to talk about the price. But the other thing, what about the car itself? Can anyone of her previous owners tell me about her real condition, and what could be wrong with her? Or any other helpful hints?

Thank you!

Joseph

Joseph,

I think Joe descriped the car like it is in the first post.
Read that carefully before you go and check out the car.

When are going to look at it?

Matthew,

I did read it. It seems to me that they paid about 25.000.- US$ (= ca. 18.000.-Euro) , maybe even less, plus shipping and customs they invested about 20.000.- Euro in total.

And they're offering her now for 47.000.- Euro (= 64.000 US $)

That is a wide spread. Will be hard negotiations.

I will go there at the end of January / beginning of February.

Forums and clubs are also filled with people that already have a car or a project on the go.
They are a great media for spreading the word if one is selling a car or parts or whatever.

If I were in the game for a 57 convertible, i would be all over this. It is really beautiful with the simple side trim, just loose the skirts and add a set of white walls.
I remember looking at some pics of this car when it was for sale last year, it looked solid underneath iirc. I would contact Joe C. ( the fellow that started this thread) for more details about the car, who knows the car better than him?

Just wait 30 some years....prices will crash when classic cars won't sell to our generation. I have no respect for "flippers"

You can wait a 100 years, most likely there is nothing upcoming in our future that will beat the FL era cars with all of their cool features. Its been 57 years now, has anything comparable come along yet? There will always be a market for them. I bought mine last year, and i am with your generation.

Of course nothing will beat FL cars, today's cars are ment to last 10 year then throw away...it's just a fact that a major percentage of today's population has little to no interest about classic cars, with it getting harder and harder to sell them, expecially at those prices, well...future uncertain.

Today's generation has reduced interest in ANY kind of cars, not just classics. Licenses, car ownership, driving, all is declining with the Milennial and later generations. It's all about the iPhone now, even the car makers are emphasizing those e-features over things that have to do with actual driving! Sheeesh!!

I think it has to do a lot with how the kids get raised, being allowed to do nothing else but playing computer, iPading, iPhoning. How big are the chances that that the kid will find a way into old cars? My dad and I "played with old cars starting at little age, some US, and repairing/building tech stuff. That is how i grew my interest. Started out with motorcycles, lawnmowers, Euro cars and now FL:s. I always take my 4 year old son with me in the garage, he really enjoys it, learning to use every tool and shows interest for how things work. When we go inside he plays with his toy christines maybe some day he will grow interest in cars the way i did.

Way to go, Henric. We are doing the same with our two 5 yr old girls. Best way to spend time with them.

That's a good way to stimulate interest... I did the same, car shows, working on whatever cars we had, so now both sons, age 26 and 31, are real car nuts: both of them autocross, can rebuild anything up to and including engines, but their car interest isn't in FLs, but SAABS and MGs! :-( (well, we did have those also when they were little).

If it wasn't for my grandfather having classic cars and taking me to car shows I might have never ended up here.

Hello and Happy New Year!
I sold this car for $25K which to be honest was top dollar and car went overseas I believe to Germany. The car was extremely solid however needed a full Resto as well as the paint was terrible. The car at $25K US is top dollar and I would recommend not spending a dime more for a potential buyer. I hear it's being offered for over $60K US which is more than double it's value in the current condition it is still in. If a potential buyer needs any help please PM me here.

All the best,
Joe C

Joe,

thank you for the very useful information.
As mentioned above, she is in Germany now and offered for 64.000 US $.
I will let you know the result of my visit to the seller, planning to go there in February.

Is canary yellow her original color?

Thanks again,

Joseph

Yes the car is an original yellow car. This asking price shod not exceed $25K US. The car will need a full Resto however can be used as a driver doing the bare minimum. Good luck on the visit.

Saw the car down in Titusville, Florida a long time back. The fellow had found it in a trailer park. Seems a lady bought it in DC and it passed down to family members after her death, eventually winding up in that trailer park.

He did a somewhat restoration on it. Had his neighbor paint the exterior and the dash.

He sold it on e-bay for around $38K, then a dealer in South Florida had it up for sale, I think that's when it went for $25K.

Rob, thank you. Very interesting information.

According to that, someone had big losses with that car...

Joseph, I´m sure the information you got from this thread is usable to go into negotiation with the guys from RDClassics. It will not be easy for sure.
They are one of the biggest classic US car dealers in Europe. He knows how to set his cars in scene. But you have to look very closely. Normally they are much too overprized. In case of shopping, it is more something for real rich people.
"Ohhhh darling, look at that beauuuuuutiful convertibel! Wouldn´t it be nice....!"
Sometimes, the rude awakening comes later. Nevertheless, his shop is always worth a visit and makes your mouth water!
I´m living 45 driving minutes away from them. Let me know if you want me to take a look at the car before you come up here from Bavaria!
