Extreme Veteran Posts: 394 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Royal Oak, MI | For Sale is A 1958 DODGE SWEPTSIDE PICKUP That has 49,744 MILES ON IT. It has been in Storage for many years. It needs to be restored and the metal is very solid. There is one place on the left fin (see picture) that is rusted through. Road dirt built up behind it and held moisture. There is some surface rust in the cab, but the floor is solid. I have owned the truck about four years, IT had no motor when I bought it. I have a 1958 350CU.IN.D-500 engine that came from a car that was in an accident with a 3 speed trans. That will go with the truck .It is way to nice a body to let it sit any longer. It needs to go to someone who will get going on it now. The truck can be inspected in Brighton , Mi. Questions can be answered by calling 810-623-2227 ask for RAY. http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/2386942913.html (58 Dodge PU 1.jpg) (58 Dodge PU 2.jpg) (58 Dodge PU 3.jpg) (58 Dodge PU 4.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Parts Unknown | Somebody square me up on these. The 57 had the smaller, hooded headlight. The 58 had the large unhooded singles ? Or is this not a 58? Did 58 and 59 both get the quad headlights TIA ![]()

Singles were supplied early in the year to the few states that still only allowed the single lights, is my understanding. I would say there were less than 10% with the single lights. George

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Parts Unknown | I thought that single vs. dual headlight issue was resolved in 57 ???? Or were trucks on a different legal slate than passenger cars ? So, do I have this right ... 57 has the smaller, hooded headlights (singles) 58 got the non-hooded (whole new grille) type in EITHER single or dual format, depending on ... (?) 59 got the duals only There was no finned Sweptside after 59, right ? Where there other identifying differences between each model year besides this ? TIA ![]()

The tail light bezels on the 57, 58 and 58 Sweptsides were each different and the 59 upper grille was a one piece type grille. Also minor differences in the stainless on the hood. The dashboard was different in 1959 than 57 and 58. Also, the suspension was improved in 59 and the brake/clutch pedals were suspended in 59. They switch from Lockheed to New Departure brakes in 59. The 57 and 58 had the 315 V8 option and the 59 had the 318 V8 option. 59 had different wheelcovers too. 1959 was the last year for the Sweptside as they ceased production in January of that year for 59 models. Only 1/2, 3/4 ton etc, long wheelbase & short wheelbase, V8 & 6 cyl. I believe the 58 D100 (1/2ton) production was either 14,000 or 10,000 in total. I will need to look for my documentation on that and post it here. George

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Parts Unknown | Do you mean as a finned Sweptside ? That seems really high. I remember seeing these trucks but never in numbers to indicate more than a few hundred were made each year.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Parts Unknown | Yes, they were stepsides with Dodge 2-door wagon quarters welded over the top. There was an extension of about 10" in the front, if memory serves me. They were pretty crudely done when compared to the GM "Cameo" and International finned trucks. George can probably give you lots of specifics. I looked at a number of them years ago, but don't think I have seen one up close in ten years or more.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Parts Unknown | It really was. As I remember reading it, Dodge dealers were banging on Mother Mopar's door for something to compete with the GM "Cameo" trucks. There was no real money available to design an all-new truck, so they rummaged through the parts bins for ideas and this one was the simplest and cheapest way to do one quickly.
