Expert Posts: 1728 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Fleetwood, Pa | I picked one up that was in the trunk of a 57 Desoto Friesweep that was in a salvage yard in Minnesota. I can't find any real literature as to which cars got them and which didn't. I'd like to know if my 57 Plymouth should have one also. If mine shouldn't have one, I'll probably just sell the one I have.....

Chrysler, DeSoto and Imperial all had stamped metal tire covers '57-59. Imperials seem to have continued having them as standard equipment into the early '60s. The '57 cover had no hole and '58 and later had the five holes so there are two styles. The DeSoto covers were a semi-gloss gray and the Chrysler and Imperial covers were a semi-gloss black. In my opinion Plymouth and Dodge did not use the metal tire covers. So, if I understand you correctly, the cover you speak of is like the metal one configured like a big round Pentastar pictured below your post? I take it there are no "fabric" or "vinyl" covers, aftermarket or otherwise, which actually cover the entire spare tire, that are undeniably "Mopar"....and not some sideline product such as Jeep or T & C Van? Ok, I suppose some cover is better than no cover, heh heh heh.....PM or Email me, if you don't mind, as to what value you are placing on your cover.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Under the X in Texas | Sorry, I had not looked back at this thread recently. Had no idea you might be looking for a non-metal type cover. I posted the pics for reference, not because I was offering them for sale. These metal covers seem to be worth in the neighborhood of $25-50 today depending on condition. I have heard of the factory accessory plastic tire covers but I have never seen one. I'm sure a trim shop could create one easily enough to fit your spare though.

Most cars, the trunk mat/carpet, matches the tire cover. Trim it to fit your trunk. Only you, and certain FwdLk(ers) would know any differnce.

While the metal cover is obviously period correct.....I had something more in mind which would tend to 'compliment' the carpeted and finished trunk on this Belvedere....something also that does not have someone elses product monogram or logo on it. The purists will have to excuse me for saying this, but I am not interested in having a spare tire sitting there with nothing more than a "lid" on it. I was just wondering if there was a full cover specifically for Mopar.....I see them on Ebay for about everything else. I will, in the meantime, check the "U-pullit" yards around, as suggested. Thanks for the tip.

Expert Posts: 3480 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Montreal, Canada | In Canada, it seems both the metal and a soft spare tire covers could have been available for 1957 Plymouths and 1957 canadian Dodges ("plodges" - Plymouths with Dodge front clips). I'm attaching some pictures. The first one is from the Chryco accessories brochure for 1957-58. The second one is from the Canadian 1957 Dodge brochure and shows a metal cover in the trunk.
