my battery in my 58 plymouth is 3 months old. i had been starting her up everyday 2-5 times aday for about a week until monday. i was out of town until this afternoon and when i went to start the starter turned over slowly but then the engine fired and ran great. i then attempted to start her later on but the battery wasnt strong enough to turn the starter over.. i have had a starter solenoid problem the previous week.( the solenoid and starter wouldnt turn over or click), i would have to turn the key a few times then would start. could this be causing the battery to drain??

not likely, It sounds like your charging system has a problem. Get the car started then with the engine above idle 1500-2000 rpm, check the voltage on the 2 battery terminals, it should be around 14 volts. If it is 12 or less then you have no charge at all. I cant recall, does the car still have a generator?

Doesn't sound like your battery is getting charged. ---Could be the regulator or Gen.............MO

the regulator has been replaced a few months back, the generator on the other hand has not. i think i will buy a new 1 wire or 3 wire alt. . i will most likely go with a 3 wire. i know i will have to make a bracket or modify my existing one. anybody with a flathead 6 have any advice?

i replaced the solenoid switch today because it needed replacing. i cleaned the terminals on the generator and now it reads 12 volts at about 1500 rpms.. an upgrade to an alternator would be nice but, i just want to fix what i have now.. the voltage regulator is less than a year old so i highly doubt its at fault. does anyone know of a generator rebuild kit?? or maybe someone that has a good one?

the dark dreen and brown wires were reversed at the voltage regulator.. i switched them into their correct places and now at fast idle i am getting a reading of 13. 7 volts..

Thats good, you can get the brushes for your generator at most places.....
when the generator stops charging usually you need to replace the
brushes.
