Elite Veteran Posts: 693 Location: Finland | The fin front end trim is a difficult part. Either are they insanely pitted or /and are without mounting studs. I made a rh side one out of 2mm stainless steel. The lh side one is next. The result is not perfect but at least decent IMO. And they are forever! Elite Veteran Posts: 693 Location: Finland | To fabricate a 1959 Dodge CR long quarter trim is "impossible" by hand. Only way I can think of is to mill it from a stainless flat bar and that would be costly..

Regular Posts: 78 Location: Okielahoma | You’re right Ralf, that’s why I’ll just end up butting two four door pieces together as others have done, no choice in the matter Have you made any other trim parts for your 57? I always like seeing this stuff

Elite Veteran Posts: 693 Location: Finland | These were installed today. Pretty decent to be "homemade"....no studs at the moment..stainless is soo tricky to drill holes in with any kind of precision. They sit with 3M red molding glue tape now...very strong bond. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9882 Location: So. Cal | If you use 304 stainless, it's much easier to drill. The 316 stainless isn't easy. How did you bend the metal on the fin trim to get it in the right shape? Did you make a buck out of wood first?

Elite Veteran Posts: 693 Location: Finland | I wasn`t aware of that difference between 304 and 316...I think I made of 304..all grades of stainless are imo mortal to drill bits. I made a paper template and cut a piece about 10mm oversized all around. Then I just started forming it using hands , feet , anvil , mallets , hammers . The thin edge had to be welded on .
