I heard a story today that I thought I would share with the group. Personally I'm aghast at what transpired but I suppose the seller can do whatever he wants to do. It's his car.

1957 Fury, manual trans car was disassembled to under go a restoration. Interior was sourced by SMS. All the chrome was sent out and the project stalled. Seller has been trying to sell the car, I never saw it myself, missed it dammit. So along comes a buyer. This is where my jaw drops. A deal is made to buy all the parts of the car and essentially scrap the rest.

Seems a darn shame to me not to keep this car together. I mean how many of these are left?

Does it really matter. If it went up for sale realistically how many of you people would come off the $$$$ Im sure the guy had a good price on it, BUT,.... we all know everyone wants something for next to nothing. If the guy had no bites and this was the only one then so be it.

Well Depending on the condition of the Body and frame of the car ,this cars parts may be worth more apart than together it does seem like a shame to part out a rare car but sometime all it takes is for a car to fall into the wrong hands for a moment and it is gone forever .

The way the prices are going on '58 Plymouth coupe parts, it does not surprise me. Recent E-bay auctions received $1,000 for a single grill V, $3,500 for a set of bumper wings, $900 for a single long quarter panel molding, $1,100 for a 150 MPH speedometer. That's $6,500 just for these parts! Things have gotten crazy, indeed.

Yeah I know. I don't blame either of the parties for doing what they did. It's my problem and i'll get over it. I cringe when I see Forward Look couches fer fooks sakes.

Why? You think people are taking clean cars and making couches out of them? I seriously doubt that is happening.  most i see are 4 doors who are annihilated in the front or rust buckets.

two tail lights are alot cheaper than grills and emblems

Holy crap, this is the kind of stuff thats actually stopped me dead in my tracks on the 58 Belvedere coupe i have. I took it all the way apart and some of the stuff i need just goes for crazy money. I really should sell the car as i'm working on a 57 Desoto instead. Its pretty complete but taken apart, has its bumper wings, sport tone set and i've got a few V's i think. Getting rid of stalled projects is a pain but it might not be so bad in this case.

I'll resist the urge to part it out lol

I just bought a mint '60 Plymouth for $20K and sawzalled the front and back for a desk/couch combo and sold that for $4K. The scrapyard took the rest for $50.00.

All joking aside, that is mostly bondo, and the rest is still usable on a real car. And it's kept in a climate controlled environment in the meantime.
