Hi: I'm new to this forum as I just recently purchased a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer. My '56 Dodge has what I believe to be the original 315ci polysphere, 4 bbl, dual exhaust, engine with the original '56 Dodge 2 speed push button powerflite automatic air cooled transmission. I am trying to determine whether the 1966 polysphere 318 V-8 can be transplanted into the 1956 Dodge and am curious about the following: Will a 1966 Dodge polysphere 318 engine bolt up to the 1956 Dodge 2 speed Pushbutton powerflite transmission - Powerflite 2 speed torque converter to polysphere 318 flexplate, aluminum powerflite 2 speed bellhousing to 1966 dodge 318 polysphere engine block, linkages from powerflite 2 speed transmisison to 1966 polysphere 318 4bbl carburetor? Is this a direct fit or are any modifications/alterations needed? If there are issues what might they be? Thank you in advance for your anticipated assistance. I look forward to enjoying this forum in the future.

Thanks

The 315 is a Dodge hemi based Poly, the 318 is the A or late Poly, different family & much bigger bore. There's a bell pattern change 62 & up won't bolt up with 61 & earlier, either way. You could use a 392 hemi tranny adaptor to put a 727 behind the 315

Like Mopar1 said, the 66' Poly will not bolt up to your '61 and earlier transmission. I have the same car as you, with the same motor. If you can, keep the 315 Poly as it looks like you already have the power pack option that included the 4 barrel manifold and carb, as well as duel exhaust.

Hey, Warren; welcome aboard!

One neat trick project that you could do for your car (maybe over several years' time), is to score and overhaul a 1956 Imperial Torqueflite
3-speed trannie for your car.

Your search-project will include finding the pushbutton housing (not too difficult to do) and, the push button assembly's ( Dodge truck-) 3-speed face plate (which appearance will be
a perfect match to/for your car's dash board insert 'panels' appearance).

Here's a source (among many-) for some of the 3-speed automatic transmission pieces/parts.
