I went to my local Carquest dealer to order wheel cylinders for my 59 Royal. The parts book showed two different part numbers for both the upper and lower cylinders- standard and "early style brakes". The illustrations were useless as both looked the same. Any idea which ones to order?

Thanks
Todd

3 platform brakes were introduced in late Jan-early Feb 1959 for the Chrysler-Imperial line-up according to several service bulletins one dated 3/5/59 and one dated 4/16/59
I do not have a set of '59 Dodge service buletins, but I'd be willing to bet they were incorporated into that line up close to the same timeframe as well.

you either have 2 or 3 "platform" type brakes. I would think the 2 platform are the "early style"

The front brake cylinders are all (4) different i.e. upper rt, & lt; lower rt & lt

Numbers for the 3 platform (later style) are:
1857-054 upper rt NAPA 32552
1857-055 upper lt NAPA 32551
1857-052 lower rt
1857-053 lower lt NAPA 32553

2 platform (early style) are:
1631-814 upper rt NAPA 22802
1631-815 upper rt NAPA 22801
1631-816 lower lt NAPA 22804
1631-817 lower lt NAPA 22803

My cross referance didn't list the one that is missing

Hope this helps

Dave S.

My car has a Dec 10, 58 build date so the early cylinders would be the ones I need. Thanks for clearing this up for me!
