Finally got my engine hoist put together and a friend of mine and myself pulled the 361
out today and started the engine swap. We will swap the cranks tomorrow and paint the
engine bay before dropping in the new engine.

Tearing her apart

Engine coming out, had to take the valve cover off and water pump off, then turn the engine
sideways to get it out, pretty tight in there.

Hurray!! Engine is out, man look at the size of that torque converter!! Probably holds
2 gallons of fluid itself.

The freshly rebuilt 383 waits to be dropped in the car.

Are you sure about using that Fram filter on your newly built engine?

I noticed this as well. I know some people get touchy about suggestions, but I would consider using a different brand of filter. Frams have a well-documented track record that you can search the web for.

Looks good man! It's always a rush to have a new engine thumping under the hood!

Thats ok about the fram, thats the way the engine came when I bought it. I will be switching it to a Purolater and
fresh new oil before I drop her in the car. Drained the oil of course to work on the engine.

Chevy orange??? OH No!!!! I already did that and get questioned alot about why I painted my engine orange.... I wasnt thinking I guess. My new D-500 will stay Mopar Blue then when I turn it into a Super D-500 she will stay blue also.... Here are the latest pics..... ENGINE IS FINISHED!!!!!

All torn apart.... the 361 wasn't that bad inside.... a tiny bit of crud in the oil pan. The crank looked great. I was really surprised.

What a mess, but the engine is just about done here.

Engine Finished!!! I took the 361 oil pan, wire wheeled it, cleaned it up then painted it before putting it on the 383.
The 383's oil pan was different, wouldnt fit with my cross member in the car. Now to paint the engine bay
then drop in the engine.

The 6 bolt short flange crank..... might throw it in the 361 and sell the whole mess....

Ok, got the engine in and running..... but very loud rocker arm clicking, how do you adjust the rocker arms
on a 383? It has hydraulic lifters by the way.

That was probably the oil pressure problem he was hearing.

Greg, I listened to the one video with the exhaust sounds from the rear and thought it sounded like a P-51! Wow!

Good work! I can't wait to hear the sound of my 413 RB in my 59 Convert. What type of dual exhaust are you running? Cherry bombs? Flow masters? Great sound!
