Location: Southeast Kansas | I recently purchased and am preparing to restore a 1956 Chrysler New Yorker 2 dr hardtop with 354 Hemi. My question is fairly straight forward. The script/trim on the car all says New Yorker with the exception of two pieces of chrome or stainless steel at the bottom of the "C" pillar. This piece is ribbed horizontally and says Newport. It also has two holes drilled into it about 1" inboard from each end. Am I missing a "cover" that was supposed to say New Yorker or is there some variant that is both New Yorker and Newport? Thanks in advance.

The entry level Chrysler in 57 was called a Windsor.
I suspect The New Port added some special Trim
I dont believe the New Port Model came out till around 62 It replaced the Windsor |

The name of "New Port" was an extented guzzied up addition to the upper optioned Windsor, New Yorker and even the Imperial's. This upper option was not on the base model of any of these rides. And as also stated, they were on only the hard-top versions.

Location: Southeast Kansas | Thanks for the heads up about your site. Great Stuff! Lots of good info and fantastic pictures. With just a bit of research of the photos I was able to piece together exactly what I have, right down to the paint code and interior code. I wonder what ever happened to the leather in my seats. I agree about the 56 being the best of the best. Again thanks.
