help getting out of park with push button?

Hi all,

I fellow asked this question about a 1963 Polara with a 383:  "The car will come in and out of park on a flat surface. But on 
any incline, whether front up or down, it will not release out of park. All of the levers and pieces move with ease on the rack  
and on flat ground."

I'm thinking the spring that is in the pushbutton assembly needs reset or replacement. Any thoughts?
