Dennis,

If you are not intending to rack up thousands of miles per year, I would not worry too much about exhaust valve recession. A stock passenger car cam (not HP) would be fine for your use. The extra spring pressure needed for a high lift cam will cause extra wear on the exhaust valves. Keep the engine mild if you are not hot rodding it.

Due to the age of the engine if it is rebuildable I will change the cam and lifters.  Any suggestions for a cam considering it is going in a pickjup?  My gearing puts me at about 3,000 rpm at 75.
