Thanks everyone!

--Rear view mirrors on the driver's side were made standard equipment on U.S. built cars on January 1, 1964. The passenger side mirror was not standard until the 1990's. I own a 1988 Plymouth Caravelle Salon (Gran Fury Salon south of the 49th) and it never had a passenger side rear view mirror. (I'm the second owner. Purchased it from the first owner in 2010 and he stated the car only had the one mirror when he bought it.)
Items such as mirrors, hub caps, wheel covers and, before the arrival of fancy multi-speaker audio systems and instrument panels overloaded with wiring, radios, and other loose items, were placed in the trunk at the factory and installed on the car at the dealer.

Seems I recall reading that as side mirrors were optional in some years (1963 for example) the mirrors were often
installed at dealerships, the position left up to the installer's whim.
There are some tips on how to tighten up the mirror posted on the 62-65 tech page. The most simple involves using red
Loctite thread sealer, a tip passed along by 62-65 mail list member. (Thanks Akron Don!)
