My
64 Fury convertible leaks - no surprise, as it is a convertible. But
it really leaks. Some rain is coming in through the windshield wiper
opening, and I need to replace the under-dash support for the wiper
pivot on the drivers side (looks like a pain). But the other main leak
is over the side windows, both sides
The
rubber seals in the convertible top above the windows are totally shot -
disintegrating to the touch. Anyone used a good replacement or have a
source for replacement?
Thanks
I have a 64 Fury convertible that leaks. Not a surprise, as it is a convertible, but where the leaks are, is the problem.
The main leak is under the dash, where the wiper pivot is attached to a "tray"-like set-up which has rusted away, allowing the wiper to flop and drop out of the hole. Looks like I can replace the tray with a new "tray" set-up, either welded or pop-riveted below the dash. Appears to be doable, but a real serious pain. Hard to find anyone willing to tackle that and my back is not begging to be sacrificed to the cause.
The other leak(s) are above the side windows, as the seal that is in the convertible top, and above the windows, has deteriorated and comes apart at the touch. Has anyone replaced these, or have a good source for replacement seals for Mopar convertibles?
I just sealed the entire floor (pretty solid, regardless of the leaks) with roofing tar. Basic old-school, redneck method that I have used in the past. After a week, it is fully dry, and has no smell. Good sound-proofing and rust-proofing, essentially encapsulating the floor between the tar inside, and rust proofing outside, so the water is not going anywhere, but I need to fix things before placing the new carpet and seats in the car.
