WIX 58964 is an In Line Transmission Filter that has been reported here as used as a replacement. It is about $16 at
RockAuto. I think it is plastic. Also reported used was a Magnefine metal filter that is a few bucks more and available in
3/8 and 5/16 size. https://www.magnefinefilters.com/main.sc
Don't know about the screen question: i.e., replacing the screen with a filter in pre-1964 727s.
Thanks,
Gary H.
