Re: Welcome new member - 1963 Dodge Polara 500

Hi Cody,

Great Story! I also have a family original vehicle ('21 T) and people LOVE to hear the backstory at car shows!

We would love to see some pictures! Do everything to preserve the old girl as best you can!

Welcome. I love that story. Clean her, get her running and enjoy her. Leave her original even the engine bay. They are only original once. Alot of great original survivor cars fell into this years ago. Your car could be used as a reference for someone restoring one that needs it. This is a great sight with alot of knowledgeable people on here.

Subject: Welcome new member - 1963 Dodge Polara 500

Hey all,
I just inherited a 1963 Dodge Polara 500 2 door hardtop with a 383 and am trying to learn everything I can to keep it on the road. Car history: My great grandmother bought this new off the lot in ‘63. She went down to the dodge dealership and went “I want that one” they said “ma’am you know this is a muscle car correct?” “Yes, that’s the size trunk I need for my groceries and I will NOT roll back on these San Francisco hills. You draw up the paperwork and I’ll go home and get the money” She went home, pulled open the floorboard and walls to get her hidden stash (she didn’t trust banks) and went down with her satchel and counted the hundreds out. It’s been handed down through my family since then and currently has 86,603 miles on it. All original. The inside needs some love as does the engine bay but that’s hopefully going to be complete in the next few years. It hasn’t run in 7 years but only needed a battery, all fluids changed and a fuel pump to get it started. Next is registration and insurance. Then interior clean up and eventually a engine bay refresh. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks Cody.
