Re: Sealing 383 exhaust studs

Thanks,

I got the driver's side off OK, I have a shorter stud for the last tube-nut.  I know what you mean, the steering shaft is a problem with the last one.  The passenger side is the most difficult, very hard to get to the nuts.  I'm headed down to Napa, I'll see what they have.

Thanks
Dennis C.

Hi Dennis

I struggled with this issue also. I hope you don't have to pull the steering column out like I did to fix the problem!
I used Permatex High Temp Thread Sealant.

If my feeble memory is correct, Ehrenberg suggested just using plumbers pipe thread sealant.

Best of Luck,
Lyle

Hello,

I have put up enough with a couple of exhaust studs leaking coolant.  The guy who put it together (me) many years ago must not have sealed them well enough.  What do you guys recommend for sealing the studs.

Thanks
Dennis C.
