If all you need is a brief push from the car sitting for some time, then you only need to turn the electric pump on to fill the carb bowls, then, turn it off. I really don't think busting a diaphragm with an electric pump is on a brief usage at start up, is much of a possibility. Get online and goggle it. "Anybody ever ruined a motor by busting a diaphragm in a mechanical pump?" Here's one such topic. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/dual-fuel-pump-question.576120/ On 9/10/18, Jimmy Peavy <peaver63@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Don't do it then. > But it's done all the time, and done for decades. > If you don't want to, that's okay. > Buy or make a block off plate, and just run an electric. > Is it hard starting just after sitting up for a week? > > On 9/9/18, dennis.1963ply <dennis.1963ply@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> Hello, >> >> I am concerned about running both an electric fuel pump and a mechanical >> pump. >> >> I tried this and found that with the pump configuration the mechanical >> pump >> >> would work alone until about 1/2 tank then I would starve for fuel and >> had >> to turn on the electric pump. >> >> *WARNING !!* >> Pumping through a mechanical pump is dangerous.
