mopar blower motor resistor

Hi folks, I have a question. I am working on an off topic 68 plymouth  barracuda. My heater core was leaking so i got a new one. I was looking at the blower motor resistor and am trying to figure out if a wire is broken or thats the way it was made s Two wires on it are connected thru a coil, the other two wires do not CONNECT but only touch each . Is that correct? I thought maybe the coil heats up and opens the gap thru the bimetallic phenomena? but i dont know.
i also thought maybe it was broken too. i could not find any fotos online that showed its coil side.
