As for the scrubbing on inside of timing case I believe that was a previous sin, somebody probably didnt nestle down the eccentric over the key in cam. I have found that before ,upon opening motors In theory the eccentric  would be wobbly but the fuel pump would most likely still work.

​ I reassembled everything, and put blobs of red oil paint on the tip of the offending bolts.Now the question is what happened to the metal.??? Rebuild entire engine  or crank it up and check oil pressure, maybe replace oil  pump, and go from there.

The reason I popped off timing case was because  while swapping a new water pump, I discovered the two lowest water pump bolts had stripped out the corresponding threads in timing case. And I immediately recognized they were too long and yes, they are in perfect alignment with worn outer rim  of cam sprocket,  and this could have pushed cam rearward into front of thrust plate causing wear seen in photos of thrust plate and back of cam sprocket. I am going to reassemble and verify, although it doesnt explain scrubbing of inside of timing chain cover by  f.p. eccentric.
