Re: 65 Shift Cable Adapters

When I change the coxcombs I use a small pocket screwdriver that the tool guys giveaway, while sliding the loosened coxcomb up use the screwdriver to release the pressure on the ball.

Reinstalling it, I insert the spring and with a good dab of grease to stick the ball to the end of the spring.  Using the same screwdriver I angle in and compress the ball & spring into place, while pushing the coxcomb into place.

It's an easy procedure, just a little daunting the first time.  You will probably launch the ball a couple of times, so no worry you wont be the first.  (-:

The Pushbutton coxcomb (SP) has to be used with Pushbutton shifters, and the same it true with the Console Shifter.  Not interchangeable.  It is an easy swap of the coxcomb's, or the whole Valvebody.  Just be aware of the spring loaded ball that will come flying out unless you contain it when replacing the coxcomb!

Subject: 65 Shift Cable Adapters

As I'm reviewing the shift cable adjustment info on the 62-65 website, I came across a photo via Google that shows different adapter for 65 push-button (held in with a nut) and console shift cars (held in with a clip).

I happened to notice that the trans I had rebuilt has the push-button adapter in it vs the console type.

Is it going to screw up things with my adjustments? or are they interchangeable?
