RE: Hot Day at Mopars at the Srrip

It was far and away one of the best MATS ever in the 22(?) years… Dodge was there in a HUGE way with HellCat and Viper drag and slalom rides, ride and drive SRT Jeeps etc… Autocrossing was big and it was one of the biggest car show turnouts I’ve seen in a while and race car count was incredible!!! Vendors were an interesting evolution… Edelbrock, Mickey Thompson and Summit were all there with their tractor trailers and the more faithful vendors like Legendary, Glendora Dodge, TTI, Gear Vendors and all the magazines were represented but long time folks like Mancini and Indy were noticed by their lack of participation… The Painters have hung it all out for us to enjoy our Mopar Community and it was Chrysler sued them (and others like the Mopar Nats) to quit using the name Mopars @ The Strip… Chrysler took a huge number of dealerships away very indiscriminately during the last government bailout and they took the Painter’s franchise so Phil spit in their eye and changed it to MuscleCars at the Strip and never looked back… Its far and away Mopars-about 98% and its fun to see the entire gamut of manufacturers cars in the NSS/AFX class races and there were some really bizarre 57 Chev and Pontiac GTO straight axle rigs out there… Folks from all over the world come and there are so many Canadians that we also sing the Canadian national anthem…

We salute Phil & Jill Painter for their dedication to our Chrysler Community enjoyment and we need to thank them for their faithfulness in the face of incredible challenges!!!

Here’s a shot of Mopar Belle and Joe getting married with RFC chaplain and Phil Painter…

Bob, they have mopar race classes, but also classes with mopars against the world.  There were a few races where the other guys won, it is competetive.  And some really nice looking and sounding non-mopes rolling down the track.

The stands were much more full on friday and saturdaythan sunday, sadly, half the show cars don't seem to want to bless us with their presence on sundays, and it does drive me a bit nuts.  The main race events are on sunday, as well as the trophy handouts..   you think they would show up... .....  anyway.

As for the state of the sport, friday night drags and the nhra events fill things up pretty well in Vegas, its alive and kicking here.  It was in denver as well before I moved from there, the local club competed yearly in the club clashes and had many trophys to go with it.  A few members are on the list, they can pipe up, I assume its still rolling there,( after 10 years here)

This was about 1PM yesterday.  Stands were empty.  It was hot in the sun, we sat down for a bite, so picked a row in the early afternoon shade, just befire there was any. Big file, but the return of that group.  A lotta hemis and a few max wedges...   the sound on the video can't record the rumble you feel in your toes...  https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0WUIq0MoTudZGV1TF9TbURDaHc/edit?usp=docslist_api

Great pics, Tom, but I have a few questions.  The event is "Mopars at the Strip", but There are non-Mopars in some pics.  Were those brought out as "sacrificial lambs" to our mighty Mopars?  Back in the day, there were plenty of other makes that were quite competitive, but I'm wondering if there were any close wins or even upsets in the races you saw.  Also, it seems like the vast number of drag race photos I see feature rows and rows of empty grandstand seats.  What does this mean for the sport!!
