If it's nearly stock, the stock system will suffice, realizing that
decades of neglect will result in failures in wiring plans that were
not all that robust to begin with. I would be willing to bet that most of the ammeter circuit horror stories really result in folks adding loads the MOPAR engineers never imagined. In the '60's, cars weren't really all that far from the "horse and buggy" days, and a system that started and ran the vehicle, charged the battery and maybe played a radio was all that was planned.
