Re: Fan clutch source used/new

Thanks,

I'm going to get a chance next week to get to a couple of Pick&Pull type yards.  I looked on Rock Auto and found the following when looking at a Hayden 2747 fan clutch:

BUICK(1959 - 1996)
CADILLAC(1965 - 1996)
CHEVROLET(1964 - 1996)
CHRYSLER(1961 - 1989)
DODGE(1960 - 1993)
FORD(1969 - 1987)
GMC(1967 - 1995)
JEEP(1972 - 1973)
OLDSMOBILE(1965 - 1990)
PLYMOUTH(1960 - 1989)
PONTIAC(1959 - 1987)

I'm going to have the distance from the water pump hub to the radiator and see what I find.  I can get a new fan clutch if I need to however I also need the fan to go with the fan clutch.  My original stock fan will not work with any of them as far as I can tell.

I haven't looked at the numbers you gave me yet but I will look at all of them before I go.  It seems that about 3/4" is about the range many people like for the fan to radiator clearance.

Thanks Again
Dennis C.

Don, you can gain some more clearance by using a Jaguar fan clutch. Not sure of the number, but mine is a Hayden. It is a commonly used fix.  Pretty much bolts right in with the hub adapter they sent with it..............................MO

Good question. The one in my '65 Belvedere with 440 power is very close to the radiator - 1/4". Need something with a little more gap.

OK,

I am going to check a local pick & pull yard this weekend.  I have a 1963 SF with a 383.

Are there specific makes, models and years I should be looking at for a used fan clutch?

If I am not happy with what I find and want to go new is there a specific fan clutch I should consider?

Thanks for any assistance.

Dennis C.
