Doug, I would suspect the carb. I put a new
street Avenger Holley carb on my new built 56 Hemi. It ran great for a couple of
years and then would throw a fit everey once in a while , usually under hard
acceleration. I thought it ws the gas we get these days, thought it was
something in the lead substitute- I would put "Sea Foam" in it with fresh gas
and after a few miles it would start to run better, And when it would run
bad with one of it's fits--there was a very acrid odor. Finally I had the carb
cleaned and new kit put in it --no problems

Subject: Carb woes ?
So I have this old Plymouth see,, and for the last couple years, it just
runs like crap. Starts great, idles fine, runs good at WOT, or anything
over about 1500 RPM. Around town it stumbles terrible leaving stop
signs, or when accelerating after turning a corner. It has an 800
Edelbrock on it that is about 5 years old. (Reman from Edlebrock). Ran
fine for the first 3 years or so. Took the air horn off, thinking I'd
see a bunch of crud in the carb. Not so. Reset the float levels
and reassembled, no change.
Heres the particulars. '68
383 HP engine, Purple Shaft cam 284/484 as I recall, Cast
iron intake and exhaust manifolds, 800 Edlebrock
carb Chrysler electronic ignition, orange box, new resister,
plugs and wires. Ran OK after the ignition
swap. Ideas? or do I need the carb gone thru
? Thanks Doug 63 Sport Fury ragtop
