Maybe someone here will try the Mass backing sooner.  Probably a couple winter projects away before ready for permanent carpet.  After floor pan replacement....  ; )

Good information, thanks! I looked at the stockinteriors site and they do offer a "Cut and Sewn Carpet" with a Jute Padding for a 1962 Newport. " Prior to 1960 most auto carpets were cut and sewn, so we have reproduced many of our carpets in this original cut and sewn method. Cut and Sewn Carpets will come with a Jute Padding." is their generic blurb.
