360 won't fire up

Hi Neal,

Some or all of this was probably mentioned by the fellas already, but I thought I would weigh-in, as well...

If I was taking this on, I would do the following:

1) validate the cam timing, by inspecting the rockers, starting with #1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke, the rotating the crank in 90 degree increments and working through the rest of the firing order

2) run a wet compression test. If you don't have a gauge, Autozone will loan you one

3) removing the carb to get all the old fuel out, then added fresh, known good gas directly to the fuel bowls, not from the tank

4) I believe you said you had spark. Question - did you validate this at the coil wire or at a spark plug wire? If it was at the coil wire, I would pull the cap to make sure the distributor spins while cranking. Visually inspect the underside of the cap while you are in there

I hate to bring this up - and I don't know the background here - but it sounds like a decision was made to try to revive a long-sitting motor. Truth is there is no foolproof way to do so. If by luck it starts than cool, but if not you may have to pull it apart. There are just so many bad things that can happen over time to the internals of a motor. Moisture, dried out parts, chemicals that change property, etc.

I hope it works out for you. Give us an update?

Thank you,

Jim
