Re: Max Wedge Intake Plug

OK for the heck of it I just checked through a buddy of mine who is a manager in a dealership body shop. The parts guy says the plugs are still available and yes near $38 shop price (I'd hate to ask the retail), and the gaskets are no longer available. He saw a diagram which he described as a recessed socket head and the gasket flange. If he could have gotten one somewhat cheaper I might have done a demo on it, as I sometimes do when we have an unresolved discussion on here, and with Gary's cooperation of posting the results in pictures on the club website. That is, get the diff plug as listed and see if it does or does not work in my '62 cross ram intake, with pics. But, I admit I'm feeling a little tight in the wallet right now. And even if it does, it makes the $100 for the reproduction set with gaskets seem like a screaming bargain.

1973 Parts Book shows the plug as 1392 371 (supersedes to 2129 351) and the gasket as 2070 122. Application is 7 1/4" and 9 1/4" axles. As you can see those part numbers are long in the tooth. '62 parts book shows the later number (that's weird) for the 7 1/4" axle.

According to our local dealer, the plugs were bought out in bulk from Chrysler and now show $38 each, and the gaskets are available on the parts locator, and show a dealer cost of $.25 - no idea what each dealer will be asking for them.
