Re: Stroker Build Update

Green Charger sounds good, Jason.  What mufflers are you using?

Well, here's what I am going with, but like anyone else, I had to make some compromises.  The biggest decision I made was to get the project moving and not let limited funding hold me back, so I built what I hope to be a strong bottom end and am going with non-exotic valvetrain and heads.  My thought is, if I feel the need, I can open it back up down the road and mess around with a roller cam and perhaps some aluminum heads, maybe even the larger max wedge size intake runners.  So here's the build sheet:

- 440 block from a donor motor home, overbored .055", decked, and align honed

- Molnar 4340 crank with a 4.250 stroke, Y7100 rods and Icon 828 pistons, balanced by MM

- Stud girdle

- Lunati 63799 mechanical flat-tappet cam

- Hughes EDM lifters and 1.5 rockers

- I had Muscle Motors go through the 452 heads that came with the motor home, upgrading the valves and springs, some bowl work and milling to 80cc.  Based on my math, with the Fel-Pro 1009 gasket and figuring in 4.5cc for the Icon valve reliefs, this will put me just North of 12:1

- Edelbrock CH-28 intake with 2x Performer carbs will top it off

The original plan was to run the Fury in the brackets at Milan, but that was a decade ago, and before it came back from the paint booth with 11 coats of pearl.  I am thinking, much like it's owner, it will spend most of it's life in a more relaxed mode, occasionally scaring people at Dairy Queen.

jim,

unless i missed it, what are the goals of your build?
details of the build?  e.g.

- bore/stroke

- rod length

- comp ratio

- cam

- heads intake/exhaust flow

- projected HP / torque

- etc.

Hey there fellas (and ladies),

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I thought I would post an update on my engine build, now that it is finally in progress.  I got the block back from Muscle Motors a few weeks ago; I had them bore, deck, and align hone a 440 block I pulled from a donor motor home.  Eric and company did a good job at a fair price and turned it around really quick.  As a bonus, it turns out that one of their fellas used to be a Street Stock racer at Owosso Speedway, where I raced my uncle's Monte Carlo this year, so we did some bonding.

I laid the crank, installed the Mancini rear main seal, and today I dropped-in four of the pistons.  Everything seems to be coming together nicely.  This weekend I should have the rotating assemble all in as well as the main girdle.

It's hard to believe after ten years of building up the Fury bolt-by-bolt that I am in the last phase - getting the motor ready!

Let me know if you want me to send further updates...

Take care,

Jim
