RE: 0000 Steel wool

When I polish my stuff I will attach a piece of plastic plumbing pipe to it so it doesn't get away, the pipe is flexible and sturdy. I have seen some experienced guys get hurt pretty bad from a piece that took off.

Yea I have the HF drill mounted wheels and compounds from trying to polish the musket exhaust on my Duramax.  What a messy chore.  Don’t envy someone doing it on a bench wheel - and it can be dangerous - if a razor sharp part catches and gets away from the operator......  Best idea I read is fixturing every part.

When I refurbished my stainless I bought a cheap buffing wheel at Harbor Freight with a couple different buffing wheels & compounds.  Don't remember the cost exactly but guessing somewhere in the $50 range.  Did a nice job has to be faster than hand buffing with steel wool if you're doing a whole car.

Discovered a simple thing - very fine steel wool will clean up the stainless trim on our cars.  Example on the rear gate trim in less than 30 seconds.  I did switch to #000, seems to work quicker and still not leave any visible scratches.

I have a bid on straightening and polishing the 40 some pieces of stainless on the Dart, $1,700.  Needless to say, 0000 and/or 000 steel wool and a couple evenings work and she is looking pretty good for now.
