Re: Electric in-line flow through fuel pump

Butch,

I have tried in-line pumps without much success.  Even the best flow-through pump will have some restriction.  It takes very little restriction coupled with warm weather and the crap they are selling for fuel these days to get into a vapor lock problem.

Personally for me the best solution is an electric pump mounted as close to the fuel tank and as low as possible and eliminate the mechanical pump.

I know some run the pumps in series however if the mechanical pump fails it is possible to fill the engine with fuel.

If you go with an electric fuel pump it is worth the effort to wire the electric pump through an oil pressure switch.  The circuit will come with the oil pressure safety switch.  I use a momentary spring loaded switch that bypasses the oil pressure safety switch to prime the carburetor.  This seems complicated but it is important for the electric fuel pump to shut down in the event of an accident.

Here are a couple of examples of pressure switches:

I'd like to put an additional electric fuel pump on my 64 Plymouth 383, to prime the carb after it's been sitting for a while. It has to be a flow-through type, in-line, so that when it's shut off, the fuel pump on the motor will pump the fuel. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks/Butch
