Maybe getting an insulating wrap on the fuel would help. I'll save an electric pump as a last resort. Also running 3/8" fuel line

Yes, pump gas, are you running a return line?
I have no ides if the boiling point is different between different
fuel or how much different.
As a mechanical fuel pump draws fuel from the tank it must suck on the
fuel line. If the fuel in the line is already close to the point
where vapor bubbles will form this lower pressure when pumping will
result in vapor lock when the bubbles get to the mechanical pump.
If you are running a return line the fuel pump will be drawing on the
inlet and fuel line harder than a fuel pump that is just supplying the
fuel an engine needs, this could make it worse.
I completely agree, I do not like the sound of an electric pump. The
old clickers are bad enough but the turbine or rotary pumps that run
all of the time are worse. On my 383 I have it mounted on a isolated
mount AND isolated the mount, still very loud. The only good thing is
that above an idle the exhaust covers up the noise. I do get second
looks when I turn the key on and the electric fuel pump comes on.
