Re: Trim questions

Another thing to think about is when you heat up a section of trim to fix it, you may run into problems anoidizing the part where it was heated up. The anodize may be a different color in the repaired area. I worked at a place that makes repo trim for Mopars and wanted to weld on a trim part and was told it would discolor in that area. Dont know if ti will but makes sense that that could be an issue.

Hello---The guy selling Alumiweld does a crack up job of welding aluminum beer cans together, I even did two myself. However be forewarned that it will not work at all on any aluminum trim that has the anodized coating on it and your original trim does have it. You would have to strip the anodizing off of the trim in order to weld it and then get it re-anodized after you weld it and get the welds ground down, filed, sanded and buffed out. Sounds like a lot more work than it is worth. I would start looking for a replacement molding ASAP. Also I happen to know this sad story from experience and ruined a rare piece of trim by thinking that I did not have it hot enough to make the Alumiweld stick. When I called the vendor about it, that was when he finally admitted that it will not work on anodized trim without stripping it first. Hope this email saves you a lot of un-needed greif. Good Luck, Charlie.

Thanks for input!

Putting a piece behind sounds like a good idea!

Don, my car is the 440 model,  65 coronet 2dr ht. The damaged piece is the left rear quarter panel lower piece.

Thanks
Tim
