I stand corrected, but they still put that 2.2 in Audi and other junk of it's day....looks like VW, smells like VW....it's a VW.

I had one of these.  It was a 2.2 liter VW motor I replaced many timing belts on these things, I always thought it was funny to see the VW logo on the head and blocks.  It wasn't a bad car for it's time.  What other sub compact car from the 80's was any better?  It was part VW part Chrysler and part junk.  But the Dayton and Laser look very much like that mid 80's thing.  All those rubbery bumpers since 1976....ugh what were they thinking?
