Poly's are a very dependable engine,
when put together with the right hp parts,
for a 318 cu. not only will they run nice 
but they also look great as a stock engine.
Even among Mopar fans a well setup Poly engine is a rare sighting.
 
I ran this Poly for well over 20 years on one good rebuilt.
It was fateful to day it was removed and replaced with a 440.

For the price of a good set of headers, and a 4 barel carb and intake   for
the poly you could probably completely rebuild the 440, and have a new  
fresh engine,,,with at least 50% more power than the poly, you would also be  
more likely to find parts if on the road with your truck,,,,,,,,, and no your
not going to have good gas mileage with either engine,,,,,,,,
