392 hemi



Anyone have any good opinions on 392 hemi engines 57-58. I see you can buy them for around 3000 and probably have about 8000 in them when done and they would look so cool in a 62 dart b body, but realize 8000 buys a very nice rebuilt 413 or 440 and would also do up a nice 310 poly dual quad, personal perference i guess and not going to race it but cruise in it, but wondering if the hemi really has the horsepower and not sure what bellhousing it uses to maintain pushbuttons, thanks Russell

Tim,
I had the same problem on my 65 Satellite and on my 41 Ply Street Rod that used a 65-80 Valiant steering box.
I fixed the 65 Satellite by removing only the top “O” ring and getting a new one at the hardware store for 25 cents.
I fixed the 41 by replacing the complete steering box.
From my experience, if the top “O” ring does not fix you up,  I would say you would be better off replacing the whole steering box rather than attempting to rebuild it. When you open it up parts will fly every where and you will end up buying a complete unit.

Hello again,

I am again in need of some advice yet again.  I was finally able to get the car going today & took it for a spin, when I got back I noticed a puddle forming under the car.  It appears the steering gear box is leaking.  Please refer here http://s8.beta.photobucket.com/user/tnaz71/media/2013-01-032204261_zps29c9fe5b.jpg.html ; the leak is coming from that dome (circled in red)  How hard it is to put those seals in? 

The kit I found (GATES Part # 350510  Power Steering Repair Kit; Stg. Gear Complete Rebuilding Kit) The complete rebuild kit is $35 from rock auto & I can get the whole unit from $103.
