Re: 1964 fury

Don,

For what its worth, fellow list member Don Owen's '64 Belvedere is a 426W, 4-speed car with a production date of 11-15-63.  He also had a spare 426 block (that I bought from him) with a 12-63 assembly date.

Weren't the 426 street wedges offered all through the '64 model year - with the Max Wedges offered until the Hemis came out for the race cars that year?

Thanks,

Dave

No go on production numbers.  Galen Govier's little white book does not list any 426W 4bbl combos in '64 even though we know they exist. He seems to have lost track of them and only list the other 426 engine/car combos - Max Wedge and Hemi cars.

However, I'd guess that there were fewer 426W 4bbl cars produced in '64 than '65, first of all, since one could get the Max Wedge for the first part of the model year.  Furthermore, I recall reading that the 426W was introduced as a token replacement for the no longer available Max Wedge option. I therefor speculate that the '64 426W was only available at the end of the '64 model year run leading to a lower production.

No vin tag is a bigger problem, but then again maybe not, same with the fender tag.  This is a rusty car that needs everything but part of the roof and the fender aprons.  I just figure its a low number car from how its built.  This is just a parts car. Its not even coming off the trailer. Thanks for the help with the numbers.

A done 426 wedge car is probably worth another $10,000 over even a 383 4bbl car.  But no fender tag is a problem as well as the fact you need all the correct part numbers and date of manufacture 426W parts. Since you are apparently starting with so little, figure your cost before you get too deep into this one.

I'll give you production numbers later tonight if no one else comes through in the meantime.

I bought a 64 fury that is a 426 wedge 4 speed with a 323 sure grip.  The fury is red with a red bench seat. Manual steering and drum brakes. No heater AM radio.  No front clip , fender tag, vin tag, wrong engine, and so bad rusty that after 10 years of bringing home cars my wife asked if I actually paid money for this car.  I quickly changed the subject, paid 1300 for it, so I can get my money out of it, just wondering if this car is rare production wise. Seems I remeber seeing a similar Dodge that was one of five. Any thoughts?
