C'mon folks...street cars will not run any better on race fuel..probably
worse.
Someone mentioned earlier about timing....OK..somewhat...COMPRESSION
dictates the need for more octane.

Hey DJI know
you weren't taking any shots at anybody. I was simply stating that
for some of us money, and the ability to work on our own cars, is
limited. For me, it's just not affordable to be putting premium gas in
anything. Especially if I ain't seeing any benefit. I just figured
I'd try it just to see if other people I've talked to had a valid point to
claim that "your car will perform better on premium". It is
quite clear they don't know what they're talking about. One of the guys
I'm talking about said he put high octane in his Sprint, (that's right, a
sprint) and claimed it went "like a bat outta hell". I then laughed at
him, called him an idiot who had obviously never driven a big block, and went
on my merry way. I hope that little anecdote
made some of you laugh. I know I did.Cory

I wasn't really taking a shot at you, it just
that with race gas, you'll feel the difference. Yes I know it is expensive,
but as the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for".
Trouble with gas now'a days, is that it is
formulated for newer
cars, not our old ones. Anyhow, wish you well and long tender on this web
site, always good to read your input.

Hey DJ,Race gas is fine
for a race car, but mine is a weekend cruiser. Plus it's
likely really expensive. See, I'm a disabled guy with a limited
income who just wants to enjoy my life and car before the clock gets me.
I figure I've got about 5 more years until I'm in a wheelchair and cant
drive any more. I've already lost the ability
to effectively use simple hand tools like screwdrivers and
such. Fortunately I have a buddy who's a mechanic and doesn't mind doing
stuff for me. Anywho, thanks for all the imput guys. Cory

Cory,
Try some racing gas, like a 109 octane. I think
you'll see(feel) the difference......

AM Subject: Premium vs.
Regular gas
Hey all. A short while back there was a
discussion about higher octane gas and how it's suppose to make your car
perform better. Well I'm here today to say that is utter B.S. I
put 3/4 of a tank of premium in my 65 Polara. The tank was
pretty much bone dry, so it was like 98% premium fuel in the tank.
Premium gas in Canada is 91 octane regular is 87. I've got a mildly
built 440 in the car with a 25 gallon tank (95 litres). I figured, as per the discussion here,
the higher octane would make my car perform at least a little better.
I'm saying NO WAY!! Took it out for a good drive today and there was
absolutely no difference in performance whatsoever. Needless to say I
was a little miffed. So I
guess in a long winded way I'm asking everybody on this list if they got the
same outcome when trying premium gas vs. regular gas? After this little
experiment I will NEVER buy premium again. Especially at 15 cents per
litre more. That's 57 cents per gallon more. Thanks for letting me
vent. Cory
