Powder coating rims

Powder coating rims

I just built a Sportster bobber and took all the chrome-plated aluminum controls off the handlebars, sandblasted them, then powder coated them satin black and they look great. Sandblasting didn't remove the chrome, just roughed it up a little for the powder to stick better.

anybody here ever had a pair of rims powder coated?? Can they powder
    coat aluminum?

Aluminum can definitely be powdercoated. I've never had rims done, but I
don't see why you couldn't. Probably best to mask the beads though.

I had the aluminum grill for my '65 Belvedere clear coated many years ago.  Has
held up very well.  Make sure it's clean.  Clean it yourself in case they get
    lazy and don't do that.

I have many parts, including rims, powdercoated all the time. No need
to mask off the bead as the powder lays down very nice. It should turn
out very nice, and if the place doesn't clean something well, find a
    new place!

A friend of mine just used some stuff he got at Lowes, he said it's like a
rubber coating. Looks good though, can't say how it holds up, he only did
it a few months ago. I was always going to have a set of tru spoke wire
wheels powder coated, but never did. Now, ain't I just a lot of help. I
don't even know the name of the stuff he used, can't find the paper I wrote
    it on.

Yes I agree. You see more 4 doors nowadays. They look good.

One of the Mopars there reminded me of the "stealth" nature of the 62-65s that is one of their unique characteristics. No need for a high impact color or fancy names, just add horsepower and drive.

https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/lsIL1E4cm5C_UswbsR-nLBrVEMasv6Qjb_vJobJeJxM is the example I am thinking about. Check out the long rams and lack of trim. Very sleeper.
