There is a guy in the Walter P. Chrysler Club's Illinois region who repairs AM car radios. I can look up his contact of need be. I'm sure there are others who do this repair too, in addition to those who update the units. For just AM I'm guessing it's probably cheaper to find a working one. The last AM radio I bought at a pick-a-part junkyard was $5.00, about 10 years ago.

By the way, always have a speaker hooked up when powering up the radio.
