You have a 62 newport right? On my phone so I don't remember correctly. A 1962 newport when you open the door for the back it will turn on the dome light thats in the roof. In a 4 door car of course. When you open the front door is it supposed to turn on the light it's above the radio. I have this problem in my 62 newport 2 door the socket in the light above the radio was shorting out. The socket had come loose am I just had to repair the socket and tighten everything down it works fine now.
When I open my drivers door it blows the fuse for the dome light/brake
light. I pulled the dome light bulb out thinking that would stop the
circuit, but when I open the door it still blew the fuse.
So, I clipped the wire to the door jamb switch and now I can open the
door and not worry about blowing the dome light/brake light fuse (they
are on the same fuse).
But, how does the door jamb switch short out? I figured it was just
completing a ground as it only has one wire. There's no way to
complete a circuit as if it was a + going to and coming from the
switch.
