I just had this issue a month ago. I had talked to one of the Mopar suppliers and inquired about plug in since solid state is obviously better. Says it wouldn't work if I didnt have the plug in type already. So I had to go with a new fuel gauge. It's in the 880 shop manual too. I got my old one I'll take pics and show y'all what it looks like inside the gauge.

I'v had the gauges shoot up when I start the car.... And stay up.... Today the shot up when I was driving it.... I'd like to think my car isn't overheating because it doesn't make any weird sounds and I can touch the radiator and engine isn't boiling hot... What could cause this? Also I changed the points, cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires... Seemed to run better last night when I was done... Runs a little "cough rumbly" today... What did I do wrong? Haha thanks!
