transmission leak

The last time I had the727 auto transmission out of the car I had the
misfortune to damage the plastic sheath covering the park cable.
There is just a small split right where it connects to the metal end
that goes into the transmission. I had tried repairing it with some
"plastic dip", the stuff you use to coat tool handles. I'd been
successful using that on the speedo cable where it had gotten too
close to the exhaust. However I went into the garage the other day to
find a large pool of fluid under the car. It had apparently held for
awhile but then started leaking again.
My question is this. Is there any pressure in that area of the
transmission that might cause the repair to "blow out"? I tried a
similar repair this time using Permatex Ultra Copper. It is basically
pure silicone. Or am I just pissin' in the wind here and I should
just cough up the $$ for a new cable.
