Using the powerful airgun I have along with the socket I bought, it was not that difficult. The old ones backed out slowly, took some power for that. I installed the new ones by hand with a ratchet wrench. So it can be done!
As for all that I went through last week-end, I never did get the big generator running, looks like it needs a new carb. I unloaded the big air compressor and plugged it into house. I tripped the circuit breaker a few times but it was worth it.
