Very well said, seems anymore I even have to help the "counter person" even navigate their parts computer while trying to look up what I'm after...lol
Even NAPA around here is not to great. Luckily there is still 1 old time parts store round here....it even has a machine shop and still turns brake drums and rotors. Owners are gettin old just like me...dunno what will happen to it when they are gone.

To top it off most of the employees are not qualified to advise on repairing vehicles. They are trained to sell. It's retail afterall. Most of the managment personell I worked with in the auto parts business came from "retail" or business managment. Not automotive. I had a store manager who's clain to fame prior to auto parts was "head bagger at Food Lion" You would not believe what you encounter on the other side of the counter for 40-50 hours a week. Same goes in the home improvement stores too.
So having a group of people sharing thoughts, advice and tech tips on a common level is quite accepted and welcome. Not everybody has a roll around full of tools and a shop with a lift and about every tool imaginable. Everybody has had different experiances and sharing these is a wonderfull thing. Thanks to the internet people with common interests from over the world have ready access to folks that love the same things. I am on a few different car lovers lists and I hope to someday meet some of these wonderful people in person. In this age of law suits and all I see the concern in leaving oneself open to "what if". Advice has been given out since the beginning of time.I got paid to sell and give tips to fix cars. Even if I didn't think the person could do it. I am all for helping people in any way I can. If somebody is not sure and is willing to ask for help with something, great. Keep sharing and asking. Well that is my rant for the week. Have fun and enjoy our Mopars..

I am not an eloquent speaker or master of the legal consequences of giving advise, but think that some thought should be given to the possibilities of the aftermath of telling/explaining  how to repair any part of the cars we all love,,,,, some thought should be given to the fact that not all people are as mechanically inclined as the next person, nor do they have the tools that some do..... I personally would hate it if I told someone that any given job on their car was easy, and they tackled the job, and made a mistake, and ended up damaging their car let alone theirs or someone else's life,,,,,,,,,,
     I'm sorry, but some of the questions that I hear tell me that the person asking has no idea of what they are doing,(probably why they are asking in the first place) and should not even attempt changing a headlight with out supervision, and then the next post I read someone is telling them that it is an easy job,,,,,,,,,,, YES a lot of the jobs are easy if your mechanically inclined and have the tools to do it, and it has been proven many times, that if you are mechanically inclined, the job can be done even without the right tools,,,,,,,
     No I am not saying not to give advise, but please do not try to arm the mechanically challenged without at least making sure that they know where the safety on the gun is before telling them where to look for the gun,,,,,,
 
Gary, next question is for you,,,,,,,,,,, is there any legal liability in telling someone how to do a repair, and it ends up all wrong, and there is property or physical damage caused by it??????
