You're probably on the right track. I wonder how new lifters will work with an old cam? You know a lifter needs to be replaced exactly where it came from on a used cam so I'm just thinking you might have a cam failure with new lifters on that cylinder. Of course it really can't hurt much as you need to do something anyway. I wonder if the seats could be receded too?
