Re: disc brake conversion

Ditto on the brakes.  I use drum brakes.  The whole braking system is brand new.  I put carbon-metallic shoes on, the standard size for standard  size drum brakes, I think it was 10" all the way around.  If I don't blow a wheel cylinder or a master cylinder, I'm OK.

The cost of the shoes was around $220 for all 4 wheels.  You should be able to find them on the web.  Or PM me if you want them and can't find them.  A cheap fix to handle a lot of horsepower cheaply and effectively...or you can make it completely buttetproof by using a dual-master cylinder for the brakes and if you are luck you will have at least one brake on each side of the car working if you blow out any one wheel cylinder.

You probably have so many suggestions you are getting confused.  Just stick with the basics on Gary's web site if in any doubt.

First, I can't imagine why you are having all this trouble with your drum brakes. Bizarre.

I've purchased a complete kit from MP Brakes. Expensive...excellent quality.

I've purchased all the correct Mopar parts, which I like better for finding replacement parts, from Keith Erxleben, a NorthWest guy with lots of experience. I think the spindles were from at 70s Dart. You or your shop could install these parts. He supplied the spindles, control arms with bushings, calipers, pads, all the nuts and bolts. I think the total cost was about $600.00, could have been less. If you want to talk to him, let me know and I'll forward his contact info.

Subject: disc brake conversion

I know this has been brought up before, but I can't remember the
company the makes the kit, and was wondering how good the
instructions, and how much "field engineering" is involved.

After 3 attempts to have my drum brakes fixed I've given up. Same
thing every time...  after travelling about 4 miles from the shop, the
car starts shaking violently when the brakes are applied, both front
and back brakes lock up.  ruining some or all of the parts (drums,
shoes and wheel cylinders)

It's got to be cheaper to do the disc conversion, then to pay for
towing and new parts every time I drive it ;)....

any bits of wisdom on the conversion to disc brakes are appreciated
