The blocks are the same, the cranks he's talking about had an extended flange and 8 bolts. There was no flex plate used and the bolts went through the crank into the converter. I have a later 6 bolt crank w/ the more common flange. The 8 bolt extended flanges continued in some of the industrial engines/trucks on into the 70's.
