Fish deck lifts?

Speaking of early Barracudas, does anyone know if this picture shows an original trunk lift in a 1965 Barracuda? It is on the driver' side.

I've also seen other 1965 Barracudas that have a jack/ratchet style trunk lift that is mounted on the passenger's side. That one looked factory too.  You can see that type here: http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/images/ml-hausel652.jpg

Also, can the gas style lifts shown in the picture be rebuilt? Did they use a spring inside that list  back in 1965?
